Message from the Chair:

“Welcome to the 2008/09 season of the Local Government Training Partnership (LGTP) seminars. The Partnership is unique as it is run by local authorities, for local authorities (with the invaluable assistance of our hosts Veale Wasbrough Lawyers) and reflects in its programme the issues and concerns of importance to local authorities. Above all it gives what its members want – as expressed on feedback forms throughout
the year and at the AGM.

This year five of the seminars will run in both Bristol and Southampton as usual, however, for the September event we will run the Childcare and Education seminar only in Bristol and will offer an alternative seminar on Planning in Southampton. This arrangement will meet the special needs of County and Unitary authorities whilst dealing with relatively low take up for such an event which we have found on the Southampton leg.

We will also ensure that the ‘Welsh’ dimension is covered in all seminars so the needs of our members across the bridge are covered too. For the informal ‘Special Interest Clubs’, hosted by staff from Veale Wasbrough Lawyers, we have listened to comments and now align the Club to match the seminar. This change gives a perfect training day! An informal briefing on key issues and questions and answers at the Club, then networking over lunch and finally in-depth presentations from experts and practitioners.

Finally, although membership fees are slightly higher for 2008 they are still incredibly good value. Remember, 3 hours CPD is available for each seminar attended. In these days of reduced training budgets the LGTP is an affordable way to keep skills fresh and meet professional requirements. Members have a real voice in our Partnership and I urge you to join us and help shape the LGTP’s future.”
