Practice setup and acquisition/disposal

Setting up a business from scratch, or buying or selling an existing business is a complex process involving a wide spectrum of issues. 

Consideration needs to be given (amongst other things) to the way in which the business will be owned, the valuation and apportionment of goodwill, the property it will occupy, employees, equipment, supply contracts, stock and tax. 

Of particular relevance to dentists is an understanding of PCT contracts for NHS work (where the business is not wholly private), the existence of Dental Insurance Plans (such as Denplan) and additional treatments, such as laser therapy which raise issues relating to the ownership of equipment and the relevant licensing requirements.
