Transport and the carriage of goods

The shipment of goods is a key component in International trade and if you are an exporter you will be faced with a bewildering array of international conventions and standard form contracts. English law is often used to govern contracts for the carriage of goods and for the provision of transport. We can help you understand and work with international transport contracts and, where necessary, take out insurance cover to deal with the risks involved.

You may need an export licence. The UK government controls the export of certain goods by means of the export licence regime. Some goods are prohibited entirely and some countries are on the government’s ‘black list’.

We can advise you and assist you on your export, insurance and transport documentation.

Work experience/case studies:

  • We advised a UK client on the implications of the Export Control Act 2002 on their exports and assisted the client to set up internal compliance procedures including a staff compliance manual.
  • We advised a UK client on their coal import and distribution contracts.
  • We advised a Bristol based air charter company on their standard form business contracts.
