- Olivier Burnside - Cross Border
The regularity and nature of client contact varies from department to department. Whereas commercial clients tend to be subject time pressures, individual clients will often be in touch on a daily basis and will often seek moral as well as professional support. - Emma-Jane Burnell - Schools
I have had the opportunity to meet and liaise directly with clients. Having spent a year in the School's Team I have had the opportunity to visit a number of independent schools and some school conferences.
I have also had the opportunity to conduct my own client meetings which can be a huge learning curve and very rewarding. - Nick Martindale - Commercial
I’ve attend numerous client meetings with my supervisor as well as on my own. It was quite frightening on my own at first but you soon get into the swing of things and it becomes quite natural. In my previous seat I was constantly dealing with clients and other solicitors on the telephone. I learnt early on that you shouldn’t get flustered when they ask a question you don’t know the answer to. They don’t always expect you to know the answer to a complex question and are quite happy for you to check the answer and call them back. - Jon Napier
The amount of client contact varies per seat. For example, in personal injury you will be meeting clients daily by yourself and giving advice on a whole range of legal matters. In other departments you are expected to regularly liaise with clients along with your supervisor as transactions proceed.
