Trainee responses...

  • Olivier Burnside - Cross Border
Olivier Burnside A business sale worth several million pounds. The transaction took around 2 months from start to finish and, as with most business sales, had its ups and down - most especially as we approached completion. I was heavily involved in liaising both with the client with the solicitors on the other side of the transaction. The deal was both challenging and satisfying to work on.
  • Emma-Jane Burnell - Schools
Emma-Jane Burnell While in the School's team I was involved in the merger of two independent schools. As with all mergers this needed to take place as smoothly as possible, but in this case it also needed to take effect in a short space of time. The issues surrounding this merger made it a very rewarding case to be involved in.
  • Nick Martindale - Commercial
Nick Martindale I was heavily involved in the sale of a retirement village complex. It was a share and property sale so I was able to use my strong ties with the Real Estate department as well as the skills developed in my first two training seats. It involved long hours, plenty of hard work and a lot of responsibility. It was quite daunting at first and well outside my comfort zone but being thrown in at the deep end is a great way to learn. The hard work paid off in the end as the completion meeting went relatively smoothly. The client was very pleased with our work and, when the dust had settled, we were taken out for a celebration meal.
  • Jon Napier
Jon Napier Whilst in the commercial property department, I was conducting a contentious adverse possession case for a client. Most of the property work is non-contentious so it was interesting to be involved in an unusual type of case where your supervisor is relying on you as much as you are on her!
