Trainee responses...

  • Olivier Burnside - Cross Border
Olivier Burnside Appraisals take place on a 3-monthly basis, which means we have both mid-seat and end of seat reviews. Although the reviews are an opportunity for two-way feedback to take place between you and your supervisor, it's generally acknowledged that there shouldn't be any nasty surprises as communication should take place between you throughout the seat anyway. The reviews are a good way both of gauging your progress and offering constructive feedback on the firm's training programme.
  • Emma-Jane Burnell - Schools
Emma-Jane Burnell Trainees are appraised every three months by way of a Mid Seat Review after three months and an End of Seat Review once the seat is finished. This is very useful as you have an opportunity to see how well you are doing while you are still in that team and also an opportunity to see how you have improved by the end. Reviews take place with your supervisor and Head of HR and are always constructive.
  • Nick Martindale - Commercial
Nick Martindale There are two formal appraisals per seat, one in the middle and one at the end. However, you constantly receive feedback and always have a good idea of how you’re getting on. The formal system is useful for taking a step back from the day to day work and focusing on the areas you need to develop in order to become a well-rounded solicitor.
  • Jon Napier
Jon NapierI am appraised all the time really. I enjoy a good working relationship with all my supervisors and they constantly comment on my work - whether to praise or to provide constructive criticism. There is also the mid-seat and end of seat review where you can take stock of your progress and plan what you want to achieve in the coming months.
